Kitchen Remodel

Mahtomedi Remodel

Tired of the golden oak that dated their house, these homeowners decided they were finally ready for an updated kitchen. Not only were they tired of the oak, they were also looking for more space to cook, bake, and simply hang-out together without feeling so crowded. The adjacent dining room wasn’t getting used as a dining room but was instead acting as playroom. Sooo…. you guessed it – down came the wall and soffits to create one spacious and super functional kitchen.

Before shot. The stove wall and soffits were removed

As is the case for most dining room windows, it was low, so we replaced it with a shorter window farther from the floor to allow for the new sink cabinet to sit below it (of course requiring some exterior siding work as well). You never know what you’re going to encounter when opening up a wall, but it’s almost always something. There was a bit of unexpected pipes in the wall but our plumber is awesome and they were magically moved in no time.

A bit of plumbing to move out of the way

The homeowner wanted a place for the kids to be able to sit and do homework while she cooked, so we created a double deep peninsula with cabinets facing both the kitchen and living room. We were also able to add an island, providing more prep space and storage (because you can never have enough storage right?). A beverage station with glass front cabinet doors in a gray paint complements the gray island.

They chose a beautiful engineered hardwood floor to be installed on their entire main level. Also added were new light fixtures, cabinets, quartz countertops, tile backsplash, new appliances, and a custom hood made by our cabinet installer, Frank.

The homeowners did a lot of the project on their own. They painted the walls, painted all the trim (base and window/door casing), picked out their tile and light fixtures, and added features like barndoors and redid their fireplace. They have great taste and mad skills!

We were able to keep everyone moving and on track so that not a day went by without some sort of progress taking place. I know how hard it is to be without a kitchen so it’s important that things progress as quickly as possible (without compromising quality and workmanship). Of course, it is almost a guarantee that some sort of issue will arise during a remodeling project, but thankfully issues were minor so we were able to keep moving forward and wrapped this one up within 5 weeks!
